B. Braun MedTech IoT Platform on Azure

Overview

At B. Braun, a leader in medical technology and life sciences, this project focused on transforming an IoT proof-of-concept solution into a scalable, production-grade Azure platform.
The platform was designed to securely handle IoT device data ingestion, processing, storage, and visualization — empowering real-time insights and analytics for connected medical devices.

As part of the transformation, the architecture was re-engineered using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines were implemented via Azure DevOps, and Azure-native services were integrated for monitoring, analytics, and alerting.

Role & Responsibilities

As Cloud Systems Architect, I led the design, migration, and implementation of the IoT cloud platform, ensuring scalability, compliance, and operational excellence.

  • Migrated existing IoT solution from proof-of-concept to Azure production platform
  • Implemented Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for reproducible deployments
  • Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps for automated delivery
  • Integrated Azure IoT Hub for secure device connectivity and telemetry ingestion
  • Designed data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Databricks for transformation and analytics
  • Configured monitoring, logging, and alerting via Azure Monitor, Insights, and Alerts
  • Deployed front-end applications through Azure Static Web Apps
  • Facilitated stakeholder alignment sessions ensuring transparency and compliance across teams

Applied Methods & Tools

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform modules for scalable, consistent provisioning
  • CI/CD Automation: Azure DevOps Pipelines for build, test, and deployment automation
  • Project Management: Agile / Scrum for collaborative and iterative delivery
  • Version Control: Git-based workflows for code reviews and traceability
  • Testing & Validation: Automated pipelines ensuring reliable, secure deployments
  • Stakeholder Communication: Regular progress reporting and compliance reviews

Applied Technologies

  • Azure IoT Hub: Secure device connectivity and telemetry ingestion
  • Azure Storage Account: Scalable, compliant data storage for medical applications
